Rarities and Oddities
Sometimes they loose their way, sometimes they’re blown off course. Always, they delight local photographers and birders with their presence.
Rare Sighting
This Ross’s Goose spent one night only on Massie pond on Friday March 6, 2020. I captured this photo Saturday morning. They flew away with the Canadas, and didn’t return. Bon voyage, little one. Safe journey to the high Arctic.
The Hawk Owl of Schomberg
This visitor from the Boreal forest arrived in Schomberg, Ontario sometime in November 2019 and stayed at the same small wetland area until early March, 2020.
Captured and banded shortly after his arrival, he delighted photographers, birders and local residents. Somedays, there were upwards of an estimated two hundred people vying for a peek at this delightful bird. The small town was over run with enthusiasts, creating traffic problems and some bad feelings about the invasion of admirers.
